Synopsis of the Main Item talk:  Occultation observing has long been a staple of amateur astronomy.  They are more a type of astronomical phenomena than a class of astronomical object and one that can allow small instruments to deliver science outcomes way beyond other techniques when the circumstances of an occultation arises.  Over the years, as astronomical science has advanced, occultations have been deployed to investigate a wide and varying range of science questions.  And it will continue to evolve as instrumentation and occultation predictions advance.  This talk will review where occultation observing has come from, where it is at the present time and where it might go in the future with an emphasis on how amateurs can participate.
