The AAQ holds, weather permitting, a deep sky field night and a lunar and planetary field night for members, their guests and visitors each month between March and November inclusive. Field nights are not held from December to February due to the generally adverse weather conditions. The AAQ also participates in Queensland Astrofest, the annual astronomical observing camp organised by the combined astronomical societies of Queensland.
Articles on AAQ field nights are available here.
Deep Sky Field Nights
The deep sky field nights are held at dark sky sites away from the interferring light pollution of the city to allow the observation and photography of fainter stellar and non-stellar objects outside the solar system. A list of the proposed deep sky field nights for the current year is provided below. For further information of these field nights please contact the Visual Observing Director.
Note: The location and contact details for all field nights are subject to change. Any changes will be advised in Newsletters and on the AAQ website.

Lunar & Planetary Field Nights
The lunar and planetary field nights are held at a variety of locations in and around Brisbane. The aim of these field nights is to observe the fascinating objects within the solar system. A list of the proposed lunar and planetary field nights for the current is provided below. For further information of these field nights please contact the Solar System Section Director.
Note: The location and contact details for all field nights are subject to change. Any changes will be advised in Newsletters and on the AAQ website.
