Equipment Hire

Introduction

The Astronomical Assoociation of Queensland (AAQ) owns a number of items, ranging from telescopes to a camera adaptor, which are available for hire by Members.

  • 1 x Truss Tube 13.1 inch Dobsonian Telescope
    • Odyssey 13.1" Mirror
    • 2 major parts - mirror carry base and bag containing truss tubes
    • 2 eyepieces - 20mm 'binocular ocular' and 30mm Nagler
  • 1 x 75mm Unitron Refracting Telescope
    • 5 x 0.96" eyepieces and an erecting prism
    • wooden tripod with altazimuth mount
  • 3 x 20cm LX10 Meade SCT Telescopes
    • large carry box for the tube and a bag containing a standard Meade metal field tripod
    • Right Ascension axis drive with slow motion hand control. Can be battery powered or by car cigarette lighter 12 volt attachment
    • Manual Declination slow motion
    • 25mm eyepiece plus additional 12.5mm or 25mm eyepiece depending on the specific kit
  • Illuminated Reticle 25mm Eyepiece
  • Piggy-back camera bracket for a 20cm SCT telescope
  • SBIG ST4 AutoGuider
  • Meade SCT Camera Adapter (needs hirer to provide a T Mount to afix the camera to the telescope)

Applying for a Loan

  1. First contact the AAQ with a preliminary request. We can then tell you if or when the equipment is available, and provide other information such as how and where to collect the item.

  2. Complete an Equipment Loan Agreement for the item(s) you want to hire, and present it to a Councillor at an Ordinary General Meeting or forward it to the AAQ Secretary via one of the methods on the Contacts page.
    Please make sure you understand your responsibilities as explained in the Equipment Loan Agreement. Note that you will need to include the hire charge up front.

  3. Once the loan is approved, you will be contacted to make arrangements for collecting the item(s).

  4. You are encouraged to write an article for the AAQ's newsletter or the Member's Gallery on your observations or outcomes from the use of the equipment.
