Special Excursions

The AAQ organises, as the opportunity arises, excursions to sites of astronomical interest for its members. Some previous excursions are:

  • April 1999 - Astrotour to Anglo-Australian Observatory at Siding Springs and the Australia Telescope at Narrabri.
  • April 2000 - South East Queensland Astrotour.
  • June 2001 - Solar Eclipse Safari to Zimbabwe and South Africa.
  • December 2002 - Solar Eclipse Trip to Ceduna. South Australia.

Each year a week long astrocamp (Queensland Astrofest) is held at Lions Camp "Duckadang" near Linville, located approximately 2 hours drive northwest of Brisbane. The astronomical societies of Queensland attend this event. The 2008 Queensland Astrofest will be held from 25 July - 3 August. Note this year the event spans two weekends.
