Deep Sky Observing Weekend Jondaryan Woolshed
Jondaryan Woolshed May 31st 2008
Once again the AAQ is organizing a DSO weekend at the Jondaryan Woolshed, approx. 2 ½
hours west of Brisbane via the Warrego Highway. Similar to previous years, it is
envisaged that members will arrive via their own transport after lunch Saturday, in time
for a guided tour of the Woolshed at approx. 3.00 pm.
Accommodation in the shearer's quarters overnight Saturday is included, along with a quality country evening meal and breakfast. Mains power is available for use for Saturday night
observing, but you will need to provide your own extension leads. Overnight
temperatures at this time of year can approach freezing in this area, so be sure to bring
plenty of warm clothes.
After breakfast and pack up on Sunday morning we shall travel to the Cobb & Co. Museum in Toowoomba to
view the National Carriage Collection and other displays, followed by lunch at the Museum's Coffee Shop. A
working display of whip making skills is also being held at the museum. Toowoomba’s beautiful Queens Park and
Botanical Gardens are an easy walk nearby.
Total cost for the package will be $75.00 per person (not including Sunday lunch). To assist in planning the catering etc., we will be asking for interested
members to register and pay in advance. In the April Members Newsletter
you will find a registration form to complete and return. Final bookings and payment are now due. All cheque payments are to be made out to the AAQ, and forwarded
along with completed registration forms to Graeme Jenkinson as soon as possible. You will find his contact
details on the inside front page of the AAQ newsletter.
After the success of last year, we urge you to join us to enjoy a clear
dark sky Saturday night, as well as a great social weekend for members to get together.
You can contact Graeme directly on 07 46 912904 after hours.
